Well, guess where I am right now? I'm in Roberts Creek, Sunshine Coast. It's like a little family trip. I actually got here yesterday but I didn't have much time to blog, so here I am today (really early in the morning) blogging. I usually wake up at about 10am, so this is 2 hours ahead of my usual sleep time. I was still gonna sleep some more, but then my brother woke up and since I share the bed with him, I woke up too. Lets just say that when he wakes up, he has to let the whole entire world know. I guess I'm still a little on the sleepy side because I stayed up last night too, but that doesn't matter because vacation is always fun.
Okay, so yesterday, I had to wake up at about 6:30am (gasp) so we could do the final pack up and what not. Then, a little bit later, we left the house and headed to the ferry terminal. Since we were going to Sunshine Coast, we had to go on a ferry (much to my delight). I don't know why, but I really really love ferries. Actually, I love a lot of things including travel, but for some reason, ferries are just amazingly fun. If you think about it, there isn't much to do on a ferry. But I just love it. First thing we did once we finally got on the ferry was get good seats. Luckily, the wait at the ferry terminal wasn't too long, so I wasn't bored to death. Then, I went to the Gift Shop (like usual) and looked at the souvenirs and magazines. I love the gift shops on ferries because they always have the largest collection of magazines. Anyways, after that, my brother, mom and I went out and took a couple pictures. My brother and I really wanted to go to the front of the ferry, where it was extremely windy, but my mom wasn't too fond of that idea. In the end, we got to stay at the front of the ferry for about 10 seconds which was good enough for me. Don't worry, front-of-the-ferry, I will be back to ride you when I return home!
After we got off the ferry (the ride was exceptionally short) we started to head for Gibsons. Since the check-in time for the cottage we were renting was at 3pm, we had to wait a while (we arrived about about 11am.) So we spent the next 4 hours in the town of Gibsons. I was really surprised at the difference in the whole town. They didn't have a huge mall, or tons of major super-markets or places to buy clothes like American Eagle, or anything like that. I kinda liked how it was so serene and very different from Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey and Burnaby. The whole town was cuter and had a really nice, welcoming feel to it. Everyone was also very very nice. We walked around, walked along the harbor, shopped at the local stores and just looked around at the beautiful scenery. I was really surprised to find out that their "downtown" was so different from ours. We have huge high-rises, busy streets, druggies, homeless people and tall buildings in our downtown. In our downtown, it seems as if all the streets are always in shadows because all the tall buildings block out the light. But it was so different. For one thing, our downtown is HUGE while the downtown at Gibsons was only about 2 streets. The downtown at Gibsons was nicer, a lot sunnier and everyone was friendly and kind. So although the downtown in Vancouver has more stuff to look at, I think the downtown in Gibsons is much better.
So after looking around at the little shops, we went to have lunch. We went to this place by the sea (darn it, I don't remember the name) where I had the most yummiest fish and chips ever! There was still breakfast, so my brother got the big breakfast which consisted of toast, hash browns, lots of bacon and scrambled eggs. My mom got a portabella mushroom burger, my dad got a yummy chicken burger and my grandpa also got fish and chips. I got the 1 piece cod fish and my grandpa got both cod and halibut. I thought that the fish and chips there were really great because the batter was light and crispy and the fish was just so tender, it would practically melt in my mouth. The fries were also really great, and the coleslaw was really light and wasn't covered in vats of mayo.
By the time we finished lunch, it was about 1:30pm, so we went to the Sunshine Coast museum. The museum was actually quite small, but there was a lot to look at. They had many different exhibits, and I just love history, so museums are a must-go-to for me. My favourite exhibit there was the butterfly table. There were so many different butterflies, I think that was the most I had ever seen in my life! Some had a metallic hue to them and others were so large, they were bigger than my fist!
After visiting the museum, it was almost 3pm, so we decided to head to the Garden Cottage (the cottage we are currently staying at). I'm not gonna go into detail about the Cottage right now, mainly because I've gotta go soon, but I'll blog again about what today is all about later.
My random thought/statement of the day: I love how this cottage is by the beach, and it only takes about 2 minutes to walk down to the beach.
Toddlez!
